DEQ Fines G & R Auto Wreckers for Stormwater Violations at Eugene Facility

Eugene, OR (12/12/2016) — The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has fined G & R Auto Wreckers Inc. $10,106 for failing to comply with the monitoring requirements of its stormwater discharge permit at its Pick-A-Part facility on Highway 99 North.

The company failed to monitor for statewide and sector-specific benchmark pollutants one out of the required two times during the second half of the 2015-2016 monitoring year. The company also failed to report pH results collected using approved test procedures.

DEQ requires permit holders to monitor stormwater discharges and file regular reports. Without such monitoring and reporting, it is not possible to determine whether proper controls are in place to protect water quality and public health.

The company has until Dec. 27 to appeal the penalty.
